"Painting" the Channel Islands at Morseburg Galleries

The EISF team continued its production of the Channel Islands documentary in May 2008 with a week of varied locations and subjects, including those of an entirely different stroke involving some of California's finest painters, such as David Gallup. As one example, a high definition shoot with the extraordinary Sony F 23 camera occurred at the Morseburg Galleries in West Hollywood, California for the Channel Islands multi-media exhibition and HD documentary. Interviews with David Gallup, painter, Dennis Cabral, collector, and Jeff Morseburg, gallery owner, were shot, along with numerous Channel Islands paintings by Gallup. The gallery, located in a turn-of-the-century building, formerly owned by Charlie Chaplan, is one of Southern California's most established galleries and the oldest family-owned art establishment in Los Angeles.
Cannons Marina Donates Grady White Boat For Red Tide Documentary

Cannons Marina on Longboat Key recently donated the use of a 20-foot Grady White boat and 150 horse power Yamaha motor for the August production filming of a documentary on Red Tide, regarded worldwide as a highly toxic algae bloom. The ten day shoot of Gulf filming in August was the third production trip on the project and included numerous days of on-the-water filming. The Grady White boat provided a stable platform for filming while also providing the speed to facilitate quick trips to several locations and the maneuverability and design to access a variety of marine habitats. The documentary, filmed entirely in high definition, is intended to raise the public’s awareness of Florida red Tide, its impact to the environment and economy, and the current research into its possible prediction, causes and potential prevention. The documentary will be shown in early 2008 at Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s Immersion Theater in Sarasota, Florida.

EISF Collaborates with Painter, David Gallup

In February of 2005, David Gallup took his first trip to the Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. He was so inspired by the experience that he wanted to share it with others who had not visited the park and surrounding waters. “Right on the spot, I decided to make the Channel Islands National Park and Marine Sanctuary the focus of my work for the year,” said the painter from Thousand Oaks, California. “The idea quickly grew, and through the support and encouragement of my peers and new friends at EISF and the National Park Service I began to define a vision of a museum experience which would inspire the audience to visit and protect these islands.”

A Commitment to Ocean Literacy Campaign

Dr. Bud Cross, EISF Scientific Advisor and Chairman of EISF Scientific Advisory Committee, announced the foundation's commitment to join the Ocean Literacy Campaign in response to the reports issued by the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy (USCOP), U.S. Ocean Action Plan, and the Pew Oceans Commission. It was found that although people love the ocean, they neither know much about it nor believe that their actions affect its health. "Our nation's citizens are not necessarily ocean literate," said Cross, "and there is a tremendous need to develop ocean educational programs. EISF's collaborative partnerships with scientists and educators, through high definition media, serve as an effective platform to bring ocean literacy principles to the forefront of the public's attention."
